Kwagala This Month: August 2014

Kwagala This Month: January 2015AUG 2014 - 1In 2011, American Advisors Group became inspired by an organization in Uganda dedicated to rescuing, restoring, and empowering women who have been victimized by trafficking, violence, and poverty. This organization is called the Kwagala Project. Since then, AAG has made the Kwagala Project the anchor program for our AAGives Back campaign. Every month, AAG raises money through different fundraisers to help support the house in Gulu where the girls live and to give the girls an opportunity to invest in their future. In addition, AAG works closely with the Second Harvest Food Bank collecting goods for Food Drives.

This month in charity, American Advisors Group is glad to hear our girls of the Kwagala project got a break from the routine of school, homework, and chores when they were able to enjoy a concert with a headlining performance by Grammy Award-winning American Christian music artist/ worship leader/singer songwriter Israel Houghton and New Breed. The girls were dismissed from class early and got ready to enjoy a night of worship bands, children’s choirs, dance troupes, and speakers.

For many of the girls, this was their first concert and a completely new experience that left them awestruck. They danced, sang at the top of their lungs, and had the best time! At the end of the night, the girls grew silent as they watched, with wonder in their eyes, hundreds of Chinese lanterns being launched into the night sky.

AUG 2014 - 2American Advisors Group is also proud to hear that one of our Kwagala students, Stella, has recently been elected as the president of her school’s fellowship program. It is always an exciting accomplishment to see the girls strengthen their leadership skills and equipping themselves to become future role models in their community.

AUG 2014 - 3The girls have also learned some interesting new skills when they attended a workshop that taught them how to make their own organic shampoo, soap, cleaning supplies, and charcoal! This prompted some entrepreneurial spirit with some of the girls entertaining the idea of possibly creating a local Kwagala Project beauty product line!
